This conflict can result in either an argument or a physical confrontation, person vs. society conflict - an individual (or a small group of individuals) chooses to or is forced to fight against their society or community, person vs. self conflict - a character might be conflicted with their own feelings or have two opposing goals., person v. nature conflict - There is some event or situation in the natural world that is causing a problem., theme - an underlying message or the big idea of a story. This message could tell more about human nature or life in general, foreshadowing - when the author hints at future events that may occur in a story. This can be done through dialogue, a character's actions, the setting, or another event., flashback - the interruption of the present time, recounting past events that add information or background to a story., symbolism - anything that stands for something other than its literal meaning., allusion - a brief mention of something or someone well known, often from mythology, history, or literature., historical context - the social, political, cultural, economic, and environmental situations that influence the events or trends we see happen during that time., direct characterization - author tells the character's actual physical and mental traits, characteristics, abilities., indirect characterization - reveals details about a character without stating them explicitly. Instead of describing a character in a straightforward way, the author shows their traits through that character's actions, speech, thoughts, appearance, and how other characters react to them, connotation - the feeling or idea that goes along with a word or phrase., simile - a comparison of two things using the words “like” or “as”, metaphor - comparison without using the words “like” or “as”., imagery - language used descriptively or figuratively in literature to help the reader imagine what the writer is describing by using words that evoke their senses.,
