1. Samira tells her mother about the invitation to a birthday party. She is very excited - Samira: Hi Mom, guess what? The coolest thing happened to me today. Jennifer, one of the girls I really want for a friend, invited me for her birthday sleepover on Friday night. Isn’t that great?, 2. Mother is happy for her, but she doesn’t understand the idea and she asks Samira to explain. - Mother: I’m happy you’re so well liked by others, Samira, but what exactly is a sleepover?, 3.Samira explains. - Samira: Mom, it’s just like it sounds. A bunch of us girls will get together, eat junk food and birthday cake, watch videos, and talk about nearly everything. Then, when everybody is exhausted, we’ll go to sleep, 4. Mother confirms the explanation - .Mother: You mean the invitation is for you to sleep at this girl’s house Friday night?, 5. Samira confirms in a frustrated manner - Samira: Oh, Mom, get real. Of course, it is. That’s why it’s called a sleepover., 6. Mother doesn’t agree and gives reasons based on their cultural values. - Samira, I’m not so sure we can allow that. We know nothing about this girl or her family and in our culture girls don’t go out at night so freely, 7. Samira gets upset and frustrated. She gives her mother more information about the party and begs her to let her go. - Samira: Ma, you’re driving me crazy. Nothing is going to happen. There aren’t going to be any wild parties, no drugs, no booze and no boys., 8. Samira begs and explains it's safe - Samira: Honestly, it’s like talking to a brick wall. Jennifer said her parents will be home the whole night. Oh, please, please let me go. It’s going to be so much fun. I just want to be like everybody else., 9. Samira tells she needs to be like Canadians - Ma. Remember, we live in Canada now., 10.Mother wants to wait for Samira’s father decision. - Mother wants to wait for Samira’s father decision., 11.Father comes home. Samira asks his decision - Hi Dad. What’s the verdict? Can I go or not?, 12. Father does not allow her to stay for the whole night but makes some concessions. - Father: You know, Samira, it’s hard for us too. We came to a new country where nothing is the same as we knew before, and now our little bird wants to fly away and leave the nest., 13.Father gives his decision - . You are not staying away from home all night., 14. Samira agrees  - Samira: Yes, thanks Dad. I accept your offer. I don’t like it but, I’ll have to put up with it. Anyway, it’s better than not going at all,
