SITUATION: What happened? - I had to present a short segment of a presentation for UQ abroad. I had to cover the topic of money, transportation, and organising your accommodation. I had been asked to do it because I had been on exchange, and I was asked to give my top tips., SITUATION: What were the challenges you faced? - I felt nervous because I had to present in an auditorium full of 300 students. I also felt pressure about representing UQ and wanted to make sure that I said what my coordinator had asked me to., EFFECT: What was its impact on you personally? How did it make you feel? - I had a physical reaction when I was in the auditorium. My heart was beating fast, and my palms were sweaty. I was getting daunted and nervous as my turn to speak drew nearer and I started to worry if I was going to cover everything. However, due to my drama background, I got up there, rolled with it, and was fine., ACTION: What action did you take, or strategies did you employ to deal with the challenge/s? - Before I went into the auditorium, I read the notes from my coordinator and highlighted important points. I thought of my top tips beforehand and wrote them in the margins of the PPT slides. To relax myself, I sipped water and took some deep breathes and I reassured myself that I was up to the task., LEARNING: What did you learn from it? How might you do things differently in the future? - Volunteering for that presentation gave me the confidence to volunteer for other things (e.g. be on a panel for a UQ symposium). Also, I now realise that putting myself in daunting situations, enables me to discover things about myself that I didn’t think I could do.,
