Example: hoping, -est - tallest - /ist/, means "the most", s - nose - /z/, c - cell - /s/, c says /s/ when the next letter is an 'e', 'i', or 'y', g - gem - /j/, g says /j/ when the next letter is an 'e', 'i', or 'y'.
