ARITHMETIC AND LOGIC UNIT - is responsible for carrying out comparisons, mathematic and logic calculations contained in programs, CONTROL UNIT - co-ordinates the transfer of data and the execution of instructions, REGISTERS - are areas of temporary storage used by the processor during calculations or operations, RAM - memory which can be read from and written to, ROM - memory which can only be read from, UNIQUE BINARY ADDRESS - every memory location has this, ADDRESS BUS - carries a memory address from the processor to the memory controller, allowing the processor to access a particular location in memory, DATA BUS - carries data or instructions to and from the processor and memory, INTERPRETER - translates source code one line at a time and reports errors immediately and is good for testing programs during development, COMPILER - translates source code all at once into machine code. it will not identify run-time or logic errors, but means the translator program is no longer needed to run the program, MACHINE CODE - all programs written in a high level language must be translated into this before a processor can run them,
