Advantages, crop plants can produce bigger yields by being modified to be resistant to pests, we can modify crops to grow in any climate, all year round to help us feed the growing human population, we can mass produce medicines using GM organisms, GM mice can be used to study medical treatments for humans, GM crops can produce nutrients in areas where that nutrient is lacking e.g. Golden Rice that contains Vitamin A, Disadvantages, herbicide resistance genes may be transferred to the weed species that we use herbicides to kill, pest resistance crops may harm beneficial insect pollinators that disrupt food chains, GM crops are infertile so farmers have to buy new GM seeds each season, GM products have been linked to a rise in allergies, it is unethical to tamper with genes/'playing God'
