Plants absorb nitrogen from the soil in the form of nitrates, Plants use nitrogen to build proteins., Animals consume plants, Excess animal proteins are excreted in the form of waste, Nitrogen in waste and dead animals/plants is released into the soil by decomposers in the form of ammonium , Ammonium is converted into nitrates which can be taken up again by plants.
