Freedom of Religion: Congress cannot establish, or support, any religion as the official faith of the US, establishment clause, no official religion of the US, Americans have the right to practice their faith in the way that they want, government cannot make laws that stop people from worshipping as they choose, Freedom of Speech: we can state our opinions, in public or private, without fear of being punished by the government, covers what we say in meetings, conversations, speeches, and lectures, includes words spoken in radio and television broadcasts, internet messages, art, music, and even clothing are protected under this right, Freedom of the Press: the government cannot censor news reports, the government cannot prevent information from being published or broadcast, refers to printed materials such as books, newspapers, and magazines, includes many media sources such as radio, television, and the internet, Americans are able to hear a range of views on public issues, Freedom of Assembly: protects our right to gather in groups for any reason, the groups must be peaceful, we can attend meetings, rallies, celebrations, and parades, the government has the power to make rules about when and where gathering in groups can be held, but cannot ban them, includes freedom of association, protects our right to form and join clubs, political parties, labor unions, and other groups, Freedom of Petition: gives us the right to send petitions to the government, gives us the right to express ourselves/complain to the government, Limits on Civil Liberty: it was never intended to allow citizens to do whatever they please, the rights of one individual must be balanced against the rights of the community, the rights of the community often come first, citizens are not allowed to interfere with the rights of other citizens, citizens do not have the right to spread lies that will harm a person's reputation through slander or libel, no person has the right to speak or write in a way the directly leads to criminal acts, people don't have the right to make a speech that will lead to efforts to overthrow the government by force,
