Exposition: Lena was a 9-year-old girl who loved animals., She lived in a quiet town with her parents and little brother, Max., Every day after school, Lena helped at the animal shelter., Her favorite animal there was a small brown puppy named Buster., He had floppy ears and a wagging tail that never stopped., Rising Action: One rainy afternoon, when Lena arrived at the shelter, she saw something strange., Buster’s cage was open—and he was gone!, “Where’s Buster?” she asked the shelter worker. “He must have slipped out during the storm,” the worker said, Lena felt a lump in her throat. She couldn’t let Buster stay lost. She grabbed her raincoat, told her mom, and set out with Max to find the puppy., They searched the park and couldn’t find him under his favorite tree., She ran to the playground and checked in the tunnel he liked to hide in, and didn’t see him there either., “I know where he could be!” She ran to the end of the block and ducked into the alley behind the grocery store., She opened the top of the dumpster and sorted through, hoping to see his mischievous face, but he wasn’t there either., Just as they were about to give up, Lena heard a faint bark. “Did you hear that?” she whispered., The bark came again—from behind a bush!, Climax: Lena ran over and pushed the branches aside., Falling Action: There was Buster, wet and shivering, but safe!, Lena scooped Buster up in her arms., “You’re safe now,” she said, smiling through her tears., Max helped wrap Buster in Lena’s raincoat, and they hurried back to the shelter., Resolution: Back at the shelter, Buster got a warm towel and some food., The shelter worker thanked Lena for being so brave., A week later, something amazing happened—Lena’s parents surprised her by adopting Buster!, Now, Lena and Buster were together forever.,
