The old man told him about Climate Control and Sameness, which removed things that made life difficult or unpredictable., Then Jonas received another memory: warmth and bright light from above. He recognized it as sunshine. At the end, the old man gave him a small painful memory — a sunburn. Jonas understood that some memories would involve pain., When the session ended, the old man looked tired. Jonas thanked him and shyly asked his name. The old man replied, “Call me The Giver.”.
