Factors to consider when designing tasks, Can they manage the task (even if the language in the text is difficult)?, Does it practise a useful reading/listening sub-skill for them?, Can it lead to some follow-up speaking or writing work?, Is your task authentic? I.e. is it similar to how you would normally read / listen to the text outside a classroom?, Factors when selecting materials, Will classroom use infringe copyright?, How well does it relate to the students’ reasons for learning English?, Is it culturally accessible to your students? (i.e. will they be able to relate to it at all?), How standard is the language? If it’s very non-standard (e.g. in a strong dialect) is it useful for the students?, How complex is it linguistically?, Is it interesting (to the students, not necessarily to you)?
