Sustained Shared Thinking - SST describes those lovely, in-depth conversations that you have with a child or group of children. Both parties must contribute to the thinking in an intellectual way to solve a problem, clarify a concept, evaluate activities. The idea is to develop a deeper understanding. , Safeguarding - Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. Preventing harm to children’s health or development. Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment and ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care to have the best outcomes. , Summative assessments - Summative assessments are made to provide a summary of a child’s development and learning across all areas. There are two statutory summative assessment points in the EYFS – the 2-year-old progress check, and the EYFS Profile in reception. Other summative assessments settings do include on-entry assessments and termly progress checks. , Formative assessments - Formative assessments are on-going which are done on a daily basis to make decisions about what the child has learned or can do already to help the child move on in their learning and to inform planning. This can be done through supervision, asking questions, observations, moments. , CPD - Continuous Professional Development - This is use to progress your career, increase your knowledge and gain new skills and develop confidence. This can be done through CPD training courses, staff meetings, supervision, reflective practice, peer observations. , Data protection and confidentiality - You must protect sensitive information about your setting and the children in your care. Data Protection Act require you to hold confidential information and records about staff and children securely, and ensure these can only be accessed by those who have a right or professionals need to see them. Emails which hold sensitive information can be password protected, childrens personal information can be stored in locked cabinets in the office. However, where there are concerns about a child being at risk due to possible neglect or abuse you must pass this information on to the DSL. , Key worker - The key person is a named practitioner who has responsibilities for a small group of children, they are there to help the child feel safe and secure. The key person will respond to children’s needs and help them settle into a new environment, communicate is paramount between parent and key person as these discussions hold key information about the child.,
