Learning is best conceived as a process, not in terms of outcomes - defined no “finish line” over which students could cross, Learning is the process of creating knowledge - we encouraged the class to create their understanding together., Learning results from the synergetic transactions between the person and the environment - A discussion of cryptography, privacy, and ethics in the abstract would have been far less effective than rooting the content in current world events, Learning is a holisitc process of adaptation to the world - we asked students to also examine their feelings and to consider appropriate and ethical action and not only the material, Learning is best facilitated by a process that draws out the students’ ideas about a topic so they can be examined with more refined ideas. - framing open-ended discussion questions and tying these ideas to current events, Conflict, differences, and disagreement are what drive the learning process - students only critically examined their beliefs when challenged by a peer or Cryptography instructor,
