Stage 1: Conceptualisation: Consider negative consequences of anger on others and also themselves, Offenders identify situations that provoke anger so they can recognise when an aggressive outburst might occur, The therapist will aim to identify if the response is irrational and aim to break an irrational automatic response in future, The offender reflects on their past experience of anger and triggers., Stage 2: skills acquisition: relaxation/meditation, assertiveness training to help them communicate more effectively and can help deal with issue constructively, not violently, positive self-talk e.g. rehearsing thoughts about controlling anger (“I must not allow myself to get angry”), Cognitive, behavioural & physiological coping skills taught to the offender, range of techniques and skills to help them deal with the triggers more effectively and also and the situations which cause it to erupt., Stage 3 - application practice: In a controlled environment, offenders practice their skills to control anger within a monitored environment using role-play, successful responses in role play would be met with positive reinforcement from the therapist,
