set context via a situation or a text, elicit the function(s) followed by the phrases/exponents, check understanding of the meaning of the function(s) and register, drill the exponents in connected speech, write the exponents on the WB or slide, analyse aspects of phonology, eg. intonation, sentence stress, etc., analyse grammar/form of exponents as appropriate, CP (controlled practice) - usually a written gap-fill dialogue to focus on form, FP (less controlled or freer practice) = production - usually role play which uses the function(s) taught.
