The origin and insertion of muscles refer to where they attach to bones., The different levels of muscle are surrounded by large layers of facia called endomysium, perimysium, and epimysium., Skeletal muscle is made up of sarcomeres which fit together in series to form myofibrils. They contain actin and myosin which give muscle its characteristic striated appearance. Individual muscle fibers are grouped together to form facilcles, which in turn are grouped together to form muscles. Groups of muscles with similar functions are grouped together in compartments., The main properites of muscle are contractility, extensibility, and elasticity., There are three types of muscle: skeletal, cardiac , and smooth.,
