Bivariate Data, When you collect information about two separate characteristics for the same person, thing, or event., Explanatory Variable, The independent variable., Response Variable, The dependent variable; the variable that responds to what occurs to the explanatory variable., Linear Association, occurs when the points on the scatter plot seem to form a line., Positive Association, as the explanatory variable increases, the response variable increases., Negative Assoication, as the explanatory variable increases, the response variable decreases., Outliers, a point that varies greatly from the overall pattern of the data., Cluster, when points on a scatterplot are not in a perfect line but grouped close to an imagined line., Line of best fit, a line that is as close to as many points as possible but doesn't have to go through all the points., Interpolating, If you are predicting values that fall within plotted values., Extrapolating, If you are predicting values that fall outside the plotted values., Categorical data, data that can be grouped into catagories., Two-way Table, displays categorical data that shows the number of data points that fall into each group for two variables., Frequency, the number of times it appears in a data set, Relative Frequency, the ratio or percent of occurrences within a category to the total of the category.
