Opportunity sampling, choosing participants based on convenience of whoever is available, volunteer sampling , participants are self selecting, random sampling, all participants have equal chance of being chosen, stratified sampling , Subgroups within a population are represented proportionally in the sample, Systematic sampling , when a system is used to choose participants such as every 10th student from a sample of 500, advantage and disadvantage of opportunity, quick and easy in comparison to random but will not be representative, similar types of participants will be chosen, , advantage and disadvantage of volunteer, may be the only way to get participants when unusual behaviour or circumstances are being studied, will not be representative, advantage and disadvantage of random, more representative, it is a time consuming method and those picked may not be willing to take part, advantage and disadvantage of systematic, it is free from reseacher bias, sample chosen may not be representative, every nth person may share a common trait, advantage and disadvantage of stratified , free from researcher bias, those in the subgroups may not be completely representative of that subgroupbe .
