Food Chains Food chains show the energy moving between organisms. Pyramids of [biomass] show the mass of living material at each stage in a chain. The amount of material and energy [decreases] from one stage to the next. A food chain shows what eats what in a habitat. The arrows in the chain always point in the direction of [energy] flow, from the food to the feeder. The [Sun] is the source of energy for plants. The other organisms in a food chain are [consumers], because they get their energy by consuming other organisms. .
