They attack after both the archers and knights have "softened up" the enemy. , Housecarl (Anglo-Saxon Army) - Well-paid, fully trained and well-equipped foot soldiers. The battleaxe they carried was capable of cutting a man in half with one swing. , Fyrd (Anglo-Saxon Army) - Untrained foot soldiers. 6000 fought at Hastings.
