Anthony Babington had a plan to kill Elizabeth I, He planned for six men to kill Elizabeth I and then make Mary Stuart Queen of England, Babington needed to check that Mary Stuart agreed with his plan, He managed to get a servant, Gilbert Gifford, to hide coded letters in beer barrels, The barrels were taken to Mary Stuart's prison where she read the letters, Mary Stuart wrote back in code agreeing with the plan, Gilbert Gifford took Mary's letters to Francis Walsingham, Elizabeth I's spymaster, The letters were decoded and both Babington and Mary Stuart were found guilty of treason.
