B lymphocytes that make a specific antibody are extracted from a mouse, but these cells cannot divide, tumour cells that can divide (but cannot make antibodies), B cells and tumour cells are fused to form a hybridoma, these hybridoma cells divide to form clones, the monoclonal antibodies are extracted and used.
