Holism - That nature is a coherant whole; different elements are in realtion with each otherin a continually evolving process. Holistically , we cannot understand ourselves by analysing aspects in isolation becuase the 'whole is more than the sum of its parts'., Field theory - Originally formulated by Kurt Lewin, feild theory maintains that the person is never separated from their enviroment, both their internal physical and psychological enviroment and their external social and culteral context , Growth - The process of organismic self regulation occurs through contact with out enviroment , of which we are a part, Self - actualisation - We have an innate tendency to realise our potentail, to become who we can be ., Awareness - Increasing this at the core of gestalt practice , Contact and dialogue - This refers to the way we meet , interact and exchange with the enviroment , including other people , Figure and Ground - The process by which a person organises his perception to form whole configerations which he endows with meaning , Bracketing - Setting aside previous assumptions and biases so as to focus on immediate experience , The Gestalt Cycle - The sequence of organismic self -regulation, Psychological disturbance - The persistence of outdated attitudes and behaviours when the situation no longer warrants them, Interruptions to contact - The mechanisms used by the individual to maintain the denial or displacement of a fixed gestalt  , Introjection - Consists of taking into our system aspects of the enviroment without assimilating them , Projection - A quality, feeling or behaviour which belongs to me but which i dont experincie as such. Instead i attribute the quality , feeling or beahviour to other people or institutions around me , Confluence - Occurs when two people or two parts of the fild flow together without a sense of differentiation. Is an interruption of contact when it is used unawarely as a means of avoiding or preventing contact , Retroflection - Doing to yourself what you originally did or wanted to do to other people or objects , Desensitization - is the process by ehich we numb ourselves to the sensation of our bodies, Egotism - is the slowing down of spontaneity by deliberate introspection and circumpection to make sure that there is no threat of danger, suprise or risk ,
