Indirect questions help us sound more polite. We start them with expressions like “____ you tell me…?”, “Do you ____…?”, or “I’d like ____ know…”. When we change a direct question into an indirect question, we ____ the auxiliary do/does/did and write the sentence like a ____ statement. If the direct question is yes/no, we use ____ in the indirect question. For example: Direct: Do they like coffee? Indirect: Could you tell me if ____ ____ coffee? Direct: Where does he work? Indirect: Do you know where ____ ____ If the question doesn't ____ the auxiliary verb (do/does/did) and have auxiliary verbs like is, are, will and have, we change the position of the words. For example: Direct: Are you studying uni? Indirect question: I'd like to know if ____ ____ ____ uni. Direct: Who will she travel with this year? Indirect question: I'd like to know ____ ____ ____ ____ with this year.
