He had been attacked by white supremacists during a mixed race performance in Alabama 5) He's best known for his soft baritone voice and for singles like "The Christmas Song," "Mona Lisa" "Sweet Lorraine" "Ramblin" 6) He comes from a humble family. Son of Edward and Perlina Coles. He had three brothers: Eddie, Ike and Freddy, and a half-sister, Joyce.
