alliteration - when a series of words begins with the same letter: 'The superb, splendid Steyning Grammar School'., anaphora - repeating words at the beginning of sentences or phrases, rhetorical questions - questions which expect a certain response from the audience: 'Don't we all need to try to tackle global warming before it's too late?'', hypophora - we ask a question, and then answer it immediately: 'Is it right that hardworking nurses should be paid adequately for the life-saving work they do? Surely, the answer is yes!', emotive language - language which creates strong feelings in the audience: 'Think of the terrible fate of many dolphins, intelligent creatures, gasping out their agonised last breaths as they are trapped in tuna fishing nets.', exclamative sentences - a strong sentence with an exclamation mark, superlatives - adjectives which show the biggest, the most important, etc, triplication or tricolon - a pattern of three: 'At SGS we enjoy, respect and achieve.', personal pronouns - these can engage the reader/ audience by drawing us in: 'Together, we can work together to address global warming!', ethos - when you come across as trustworthy in a speech, logos - when you use facts and evidence in a speech, pathos - when you play on the audience's emotions in a speech,
