Place the Bunsen burner on a heatproof mat., Check that the gas tap is in the ‘off’ position., Connect the rubber hose to the gas tap., Close the airhole of the Bunsen burner collar., Light a match and hold it a few centimetres above the barrel., Turn on the gas tap and a yellow fl ame will appear., Adjust the flame by moving the collar until the airhole is open and a blue flame appears., Remember to close the collar to return the flame to yellow when the Bunsen burner is not in use..
