pre production/ silent or receptive stage - where children attempt to communicate in home language but wen they fail go silent and they're starting to learn frequently used words , early production - once they understand few words they will start to use common words or phrases they constantly hear, speech emergence - moved on from set phrases and having go at talking also using short sentences, intermediate fluency - can now express themselves but don't have full fluency so struggle to talk about feelings or use full sentences also start code switching, advance fluency - more fluent in use of English can vocalise thoughts and ideas ,
