I went to a wedding in Sweden last year. It wasn't so different to weddings I've seen, but the o____ t____ was: firstly, there was a lot of singing during the reception, which I j____ in even though I'm t____ d____! Then there were lots of speeches. Anyone could make a t____ and speak. And when the g____ left the room for whatever reason, male guests would l____ up and kiss the bride. Another thing I discovered is that when the couple e____ vows, the person who says 'I do' l____ is supposed to be the one who'll wear the t____ in their marriage. 2 Here in Japan, the second Monday in January is called Seijin No Hi - C____-of-Age Day. Everyone who turns twenty that year is invited to a big reception organised by the local authority to m____ the fact they're now legally adults. The girls wear t____ Japanese outfits, worth thousands of pounds, which is why most girls just h____ them for the day. The guys usually wear s____, but some do dress more t____ too. At the reception there's a l____ speech by the local mayor to congratulate them and r____ them of their new o giver responsibilities and small gifts are h____ out to everyone. Family and friends usually g____ outside the town hall to take photos. Then we go out and party the night away. 3 People here find death an a____ subject. In Puerto Rico, I think we have a h____ more open attitude. When someone dies, the funeral company usually preserves the body so it can be d____ in a c____. However, recently there's been a trend to d____ the bodies and place them in a t____ setting, such as sitting on their motorbike. The body's on d____ at least two days so everybody - friends, family - can p____ their r____ and take photos with the body before it is b____. This is all part of celebrating their life and the photo is an important record of the event. It's part of a person's history and honouring the dead is very important, which is why we also visit the g____ of loved ones every year. 4 I have j____ had my first baby, Aadit. Family is c____ to the Hindu f____ so there are several r____ connected to birth and children. Right after the birth, the baby is washed and then the father b____ a mixture of h____ and butter on the baby's lips. He then w____ special h____ words in the baby's right ear as a b____ for his future life. I had quite a difficult l____ but seeing my husband do that was so beautiful, I immediately forgot all the pain and e____. We didn't actually name the baby till ten days after the birth, because a p____ c____ an astrological c____ to find the position of the stars and choose the initials of the name. Later in the year we'll m____ other events like the baby's first trip outside and the first time he has solid food. A: Have you read that interview with Taylor Fox in there? B: No. I was j____ having a quick f____ t____. Why? A: I thought it was interesting. Did you know she's g____ two a____ kids from Malawi? B: I did. From what l've h____, she couldn't have kids of her own. A: No, as I understand it, she'd already had a son with Scott Blake. B: She's married to Scott Blake! A: They got d____ a while back. She's with Cody Lescott now. B: Of course! I was going to say. So, how come she s____ up with Scott Blake? He seems really nice. A: That's the image, but it turns out he's a bit of a j____. He'd been l____ a bit of a d____ life. He was very popular with the ladies and she decided she just couldn't trust him! That's why they c____ it a d____. B: You're joking! He comes a____ as so c____-c____ and p____. A: apparently not. It seems - how s____ I put it - that he likes to s____ the love a lot! B: Well, that's c____ my opinion of him! She's b____ o____ without him in that c____, then. A: Absolutely. You should read the interview. She had quite an interesting u____. She just sounds very d____-to-e____. Conversation 2 C: Have you seen Ollie recently? D: No, not for a____. Have you? C: Yeah, I saw him last week. We went for a d____. D: Right. How is he? C: Oh, he's good. Really good, actually. You know he left his job? D: Really? I was told he was doing w____ there. C: He was, he was, but he'd actually been thinking about leaving for a while - basically ever s____ he started going out with Leila. D: Who's Leila?. As far as I know, he wasn't seeing anyone then. C: Oh, maybe. Well, anyway, she's Finnish. They met on holiday. She lives in Helsinki. They were c____ between here and there more or less every two weeks, but in the end, he decided to q____ his job and move there. Apparently, she's got a really good job so they can both a____ to l____ off her s____. D: So he's just going to be a house h____, then! C: he said he'd sent CVs to a couple of companies, but if that came to n____ he was going to r____ as an English teacher. D: Really? Well, that's a c____ for the b____!
