Culture - Refers to people with a similar learned set of beliefs, values, traditions, social practices, and often language., Race or Phenotype - Refers to observable characteristics such as skin color., Ethnicity - Refers to people who share a language, religion, nation, or culture., Intercultural Communication - Refers to effective communication among people from different cultures., Ethnocentrism - A learned belief in cultural superiority. Believing that your culture is the right one and that all others are less than., Stereotyping - The categorizing of a group of people and making claims about that group and the characteristics of all of the people that belong to that particular group., Intolerance - The unwillingness to tolerate the existence of opinions or behaviors that may be different from your own., Prejudice - Is a negative attitude or belief towards others based on faulty stereotypes and causing irrational feelings of dislike., Discrimination - Unjust treatment (behavior) of others, Racism - Categorizing people in terms of physical traits. Often intertwined with the terms prejudice and discrimination it’s distinguished in terms of oppression., Cultural Relativism - The idea that we should view others’ cultures through their lens and not their cultural lens., Respect - Conveyed by showing concern and interest in others and their ideas., Empathy - The ability to show awareness of another person’s thoughts and feelings., Positive Descriptive Language - Descriptive language that does not pass judgement or evaluate the other person., Descriptive Language - Language that gives details without passing judgement or stating an opinion., Evaluative Language - Language that passes judgement on a person or person’s behavior and asserts that your opinion is the right one., Equality Language - Language that lets others know that you see them as equals; non-judgemental., Superiority Language - Language that indicates to others you are better than they are., Active Listening - Refers to listening where you actually hear what someone says. Repeating back what someone said, using eye contact, and an open embrace while listening.,
