He sometimes speaks very quickly and loses accuracy. He rarely checks his own mistakes. He has become much more willing to ask questions. He still needs encouragement when a task is more difficult., Monika (42 years old). Level: A2 → B1. Lessons: individual, once a week. Main goal: speak English while travelling. After six months: At the beginning, Ania was very afraid of speaking. She now manages basic conversations in English much more confidently. She can handle situations at hotels, restaurants, airports and shops. She understands the main idea of everyday conversations. She still struggles when people speak quickly. She often knows a word but cannot retrieve it quickly enough while speaking. She sometimes switches to Polish when she gets stuck. Her pronunciation has improved noticeably. She is much less afraid of making mistakes., Piotr (17 years old). Level: B2. Lessons: individual, twice a week. Main goal: prepare for the matura and improve general fluency. After six months: Piotr has a wide vocabulary and understands complex texts easily. He performs very well in grammar exercises. His written work is generally accurate and well organised. His speaking is less confident than his written English. He often searches for the “perfect” word before continuing. He sometimes gives very complicated answers when a simpler expression would be more natural. He rarely makes basic grammar mistakes, but he sometimes makes unnatural collocations. He has improved considerably in speaking compared with six months ago. He still needs to work on fluency and spontaneity.
