opening - The start of a text which is designed to hook the reader, focus - This is what or who the writer is focused upon.., shifts - This is when the writer shifts the focus e.g. from one character to another, contrast - The differences between two things/ characters, repetition - When words, phrases or ideas are repeated for effect., pace - The feeling of speed in the writing – are events and ideas revealed to the reader slowly or quickly?, order of events - This could be chronological or writers might choose to start at the end, in the middle, or with flashbacks / flash forwards., endings - The conclusion of a text may be resolved or leave us on a cliffhanger, dialogue - Conversations and speech., sentence structures - Varied types of sentences, eg simple, short, compound and complex., paragraph lengths - These vary like sentences eg, to highlight significant points or to provide a detailed account., Cyclical structure - When the ending of a text links to the start of a text - goes full circle etc,
