Data - Unprocessed facts or figures that, on their own, have no meaning. , Information - When data is entered into a computer system and is processed. , Bit - Has a value of 0 or 1 and is the smallest unit of computer storage. , Byte - 8 bits , Integer numbers - Can be positive or negative whole number, Real numbers - Can include numbers with decimal/fractional parts, Pixel - The smallest unit of a digital image that can be displayed and edited on a computer screen , Bitmap graphics - Store details about every individual element that makes up an image., Vector-based graphics - Store information abou the components that make up an image; these components are based on mathematical objects such as lines, curves and shapes. , Sample Rate - Number of audio sound samples captured per second to represent the sounds digitally. , Bit depth - The number of bits used for each sound sample , Bit rate - The quantity of data measured in bits that is processed in a given amount of time. , Data portability - Transferring data from one comptuer to another or from one software application to another without having to re-enter the data. , Data compression - Used to convert digital data to as small a size as possible while still maintaining the quality of the data contained in the file. , Lossy compression - Reduces the file size by removing some data, Lossless Comrpession - Maintains the quality of the file, therefore no quality is lost , Cloud - Resources and storage hosted online, the cloud can be accessed on a global scale using any device that can connect to the internet, File backup - A physcial copy of a file stored in a secure location in a secure location in case the original file gets lost, destroyed or corrupted, Bandwidth - The amount of data that can be trasmitted over a network in a fixed amount of time, measured in bits per second, Streaming - Process that allows video to be viewed on a website straight away without having to wait for the full video to be downloaded, Data subject - An individual who is the subject of personal data , Information Commissioner - The title given to a government regulator who is responsible for the protection of personal data , Data Controller - The individual in an organisation who is responsible for determining the purposes for and the manner in which personal data is processed., Software licence - A document that provides legally binding guidance for the use and distribution of software within an organisation, Generic software - General purpose software, such as word-processing that is not designed specifically, Teleworking - Using IT and telecommunications to work from home, Multimedia - The integration of text, graphics, video, animation and sound. , Simulation - Uses a computer model designed to represent a 'real-life' object, Virtual reality - Uses simulations to recreate 'real' experiences using a combination of human senses such as vision, hearing and touch to allow the user to feel that they are experiencing the actual situation, E-Commerce - A means of conducting business transactions over electronic networks e.g. online shopping,
