1. Place slide onto the stage , 2. Turn on the light , 3. Select the lowest power objective lens, 4. Look through the eyepiece lens while moving the stage down,  5. Using the course focus wheel, 6. Increase the resolution/reduce the blurriness by moving the fine focus wheel, 7. When you can see a cell in your field of view, increase the magnification by selecting a higher power objective lens.
