Kidney - The two bean-shaped organs that are roughly the size of a fist and located in the back of the abdomen. They remove waste and extra water from the blood (as urine) and help keep chemicals (such as sodium, potassium, and calcium) balanced in the body. They also make hormones that help control blood pressure., Ureter - The tubes carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder, Urethra - The tubular path that connects the bladder to the body's exterior, allowing urine to exit the body., Bladder - A triangle-shaped, hollow organ, located in the lower abdomen. It is held in place by ligaments that are attached to other organs and the pelvic bones. The organ's walls relax and expand to store urine, and contract and flatten to empty urine through the urethra., Nephrons - The kidneys are packed with around a million of these structures. They start in the cortex of the kidney and loop down into the medulla and back to the cortex. Each one of these is made up of a glomerulus, a Bowman's Capsule, kidney tubules, a Loop of Henle and a collecting duct. They regulate the level of water, and salts and removes urea from the blood.,
