They give us a personal account., Prolepsis (looking forward) - Looking ahead to something which happens after the time period in the text., Setting - Where the narrative is set., Non-chronological - Mixed time order, events are not presented in strict time order., Shifts in focus - A change from one scene to another, something different the writer draws the reader’s attention to., Zoom in - Focusing in on a detail., Zoom out - Zooming out from a detail to a wider view (e.g., panoramic)., Juxtaposition - When two ideas/things are placed next to each other, often to highlight contrast., Flashback - Looking at something which happened in the past., Dialogue - Speech between characters, which can reveal more about the characters who speak., Cyclical or circular structure - The text mentions something from the beginning again at the end., Moving from inside to the wider outside world (or vice versa) - A change in the ‘size’ of the setting; moving between close-up and wider views.,
