Andrew Heward, a British swimmer, was only sixteen when he lost his leg in a road accident., He was going to a training session at the swimming pool on his bicycle when a car hit him., Andrew was rushed to hospital., He underwent a very complicated surgery on his spine and legs., Unfortunately, his leg had to be amputated at the knee., Everybody thought that he would never be able to swim that well again., But Andrew was determined to carry on., He went back into the pool only two months after the operation., And just a year later, in the world championship in Paris, Andrew swam 800 metres in 9 minutes 10 seconds and qualified for the final – but not for disabled swimmers, for able-bodied ones!, Although he didn’t win a medal, he still made history..
