Central Nervous System - Made up of the Brain and the Spinal Cord. Main function: process informaiton received from internal and external sources and to activate appropriate responses., Peripheral Nervous System - Network of neurons located outside the CNS. Function: to transmit information to and from the CNS, Autonomic Nervous System - Subdivision of the PNS connecting the CNS to the body’s internal organs and glands providing feedback to the brain about their self-regulating activities, Brain - A network of neurons. Main Function: vital role in processing information received from the body and in directing actions within the body., Spinal Cord - A long, thin bundle of nerve tissue that extends from the base of the brain to the lower back. Two major functions: to receive sensory info from the body and to send to the brain AND send response message from the brain to the body, Somatic Nervous System - Network of nerves that carries sensory information to the CNS and motor information from the CNS causing skeletal muscles (attached to our bone) to initiate, change or stop movement., Parasympathetic NS - Neural network that helps maintain the body’s normal (steady & balanced) state of functioning. It counterbalances the activities of the sympathetic nervous system by restoring the body to a state of calm after activation., Sympathetic NS - Neural network that activates internal muscles, organs and glands to prepare the body to deal with a stressful/threatening situation. It enhances survival by providing an immediate response.,
