Might also be straightened so water gets to the sea more quickly, Washlands - These are areas which are left to flood so that flooding is avoided in other places such as towns, Warning systems - Sirens which give people an early warning of possible flooding, Embankments - Raised banks built along the river to hold back flood waters,
