Brittle fracture, A sudden break with little or no plastic deformation., Ductile fracture, A type of fracture where significant plastic deformation occurs before failure., Fatigue, Failure caused by repeated loading and unloading cycles, even if the stress is below the material’s strength., Creep, The gradual deformation of a material under constant load over time, usually at high temperature., Corrosion, Progressive damage caused by chemical reactions with the environment (e.g. rusting)., Wear, Surface damage caused by friction or contact between materials., Thermal fatigue, Failure caused by repeated temperature changes leading to expansion and contraction., Stress concentration, Localised increase in stress around flaws such as holes, cracks, or sharp corners., Yielding, Permanent deformation that occurs when a material exceeds its elastic limit., Fracture toughness, The ability of a material to resist crack propagation.
