Generative topics - Are important, exciting, stimulating, accessible for the students we teach and that offer ready connections to other important dimensions of thought-other disciplines, other ways of learning, Understanding goals - To create focus. List them in phrases of the form: "Students will understand that ..." or "Students will apreciate that ...", Understanding performances - Students should be engaged in performances -like explaining, finding examples and evidence, applying, analogyzing- that demonstrate understanding from the begining to the end of the unit or course., Ongoing assessment - Students need criteria, feedback -from the teacher, from peers, or from students' self-evaluation-, and opportunities for reflection from the begining of and throughout any sequence of instruction.,
