13th Amendment - Freed all slaves, ended slavery , 14th Amendment - Granted citizenship to all former slaves, 15th Amendment - Allowed all former slaves to vote, Andrew Johnson - President during Reconstruction, Impeached from office but not removed, opposed reconstruction , Hiram Rhodes Revels - American Clergyman, First black citizen to be elected to U.S. Senate, Black Codes - Limited rights, low wages, discrimination, Freedmans Bureau - gave former slaves, food, clothing, shelter, and education, Carpetbaggers - Northern Whites, Moved to South to make a profit. GET PAID! , Sharecropper - Farmer who worked land for owner, used farmers tools and were economically dependent on landowners, Poll taxes - A tax paid before a voter could vote , Literacy Test - Used to prevent African Americans from voting. Had to know how to read and write, Reconstruction Act - Some acts made to Protect African Rights in the South, Abraham Lincoln's plan - Had a plan to forgive (amnesty) the South if they swear allegiance to the US , Radical Reconstruction - Wanted harsh punishments for the South, wanted Southern states to ratify the 14th amendment-which they hated, Civil Rights Act of 1866 - This act granted full citizenship to African Americans and gave the fed gov't the power to intervene in state affairs and protect their rights. It was the basis for the 14th Amendment.,
