Point Source Pollution, comes from one, clear, specific place, sources: a pipe, a leaking tank, an oil spill, pollution enters the water at one main location, can be found more easily, can POINT to the exact source, caused by factories, wastewater treatment plants, or leaking pipes, Non-Point Source Pollution, comes from many spread out places, sources: farm fields, pastures, roads, parking lots, construction sites, pollution is carried by rain runoff over land, harder to find, CANNOT point to the exact source, caused by fertilizer, sediment, trash, oil, manure, pesticide/herbicides.
