Aim - To see whether alcoholism could be explained in terms of hereditary factors. , Type of study - Case study, Sample - 174 male twin pairs from Skane in Sweden. Kaij classified 48 as identical (MZ) and 126 as non-identical (DZ) where at least one twin was registered with the temperance board., Data collection - Interviews with those twins registered with the temperance board and with close relatives to collect information about drinking habits and whether they were MZ or DZ twins., Results - 61% of the identical twins were both alcoholic whereas only 39% of the non-identical twins were both alcoholic.
