RTO obligations regarding Validation: RTOs must have a systematic plan for validation, Each training product must be validated at least once every 5 years., Validation is undertaken by one or more persons not directly involved in delivery or assessment of the training product being validated., All trainers and assessors undertake professional development in the knowledge and practice of vocational training and learning and assessment, including competency-based training and assessment., Obligations of assessors when participating in validation activities: can participate in the validation process as part of a team, cannot conduct the validation on his/her own, cannot determine the validation outcome for any assessment judgements they made, cannot be the lead validator in the assessment team, Principles of assessment: Valid An assessment decision of the training provider is justified, based on the evidence of performance of the individual student., Reliable Evidence presented for assessment is consistently interpreted and assessment results are comparable irrespective of the assessor conducting the assessment., Flexible Assessment is flexible to the individual by reflecting student needs, assessing competencies held by the studen regardless of how and where they were obtained, d rawing from a range of assessment methods, Fair The individual student’s needs are considered in the assessment process., Rules of evidence: Valid The assessor must be assured that the student has the skills, knowledge, and attributes as described in the unit of competency and associated assessment requirements., Authentic The assessor must be assured that the evidence presented for assessment is the student’s own work., Current The assessor must be assured that the assessment evidence demonstrates current competency. This requires the assessment evidence to be from the present or the very recent past, Sufficient The assessment must be assured that the quality, quantity, and relevance of the assessment evidence enables a judgement to be made of a student’s competency.,
