1) The four steps your food goes through are Ingestion, Digestion, Absorption, and elimination. 2) Enzymes contained in saliva helps break down food that is going down your mouth. 3) when you swallow your food ,water, and other liquids into a hollow tube called the esophagus. 4) There are two types of Digestion. Mechanical Digestion and Chemical Digestion. 5) Mechanical digestion happens when you mash or grind food with your teeth and tongue. 6) In chemical digestion chemical reactions happen to break down pieces of food into smaller molecules. chemical digestion cannot happen without a substance called enzymes. 7) Enzymes are proteins that help break down larger molecules into smaller molecules. 8) There are multiple types of enzymes and each one is specialized to help break down a specific molecule at a specific location. 9) After digestion the food makes its way to the small intestine. 10) When the food already gets to the small intestine the food is already in a soupy mixture. 11) The small intestine has two functions digestion and absorption. 12) The liver creates a substance in the body called bile. 13) The pancreas makes something called enzymes. 14) Because the small intestine is very long the food that you eat takes some time to move through it 15) The large intestine receives the digested food that the small intestine did not absorb.
