Pure Substance - substances that are made up of only one kind of particle and have a fixed or constant structure., Mixture - Something that consists of diverse elements., filtration - The act or process of filtering; the mechanical separation of a liquid from the undissolved particles floating in it., Period - A length of time., volume - A three-dimensional measure of space that comprises a length, a width and a height. It is measured in units of cubic centimeters in metric, cubic inches or cubic feet in English measurement., conductivity - The ability of a material to conduct electricity, heat, fluid or sound, precipitate - a solid that exits the liquid phase of a solution, Atom - The smallest possible amount of matter which still retains its identity as a chemical element, now known to consist of a nucleus surrounded by electrons., Noble Gases - any of the gaseous elements helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and radon, occupying Group 0 (18) of the periodic table. They were long believed to be totally unreactive but compounds of xenon, krypton, and radon are now known., Transition Metals - any of the set of metallic elements occupying a central block (Groups IVB–VIII, IB, and IIB, or 4–12) in the periodic table, e.g., iron, manganese, chromium, and copper. Chemically they show variable valence and a strong tendency to form coordination compounds, and many of their compounds are colored., Acid - A chemical that gives off hydrogen ions in water and forms salts by combining with certain metals, Base - The starting point of a logical deduction or thought; basis., Solute - Any substance that is dissolved in a liquid solvent to create a solution, subscript - A type of lettering form written lower than the things around it., distillation - The separation of more volatile parts of a substance from less volatile ones by evaporation and condensation., inert - not readily reacting with other elements or compounds, Oxidation (Rusting) - A reaction in which the atoms of an element lose electrons and the oxidation state of the element increases., atomic mass - the mass of an atom of a chemical element expressed in atomic mass units. It is approximately equivalent to the number of protons and neutrons in the atom (the mass number) or to the average number allowing for the relative abundances of different isotopes., Alkaline Earth Metal - any of the elements beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium, and radium, occupying Group IIA (2) of the periodic table. They are reactive, electropositive, divalent metals, and form basic oxides which react with water to form comparatively insoluble hydroxides., Group - A set with an associative binary operation, under which there exists an identity element, and such that each element has an inverse.,
