The design brief - A design brief is a detailed written description that outlines the aims, objectives and constraints of any design or engineering problem to be presented to the designer or engineer., Analysing the brief - To analyse the brief means to show evidence of understanding the aim, objectives, the constraints of the project. Areas which require solutions should be identified, and problems which will be encountered should be recognised. The questions in the table below help you understand how to analyse a brief. (Mind Maps / Spidergrams), Research and Investigation - In this section of the design portfolio, you will gather information to help you build a design that works successfully., Possible solutions - Your next step is to use your research to inform and inspire your design ideas. Using the information gathered, you sketch possible solutions. You must sketch a unique design that satisfies the brief. You should use a number of different sketching techniques to demonstrate your ideas., Final solution - In this stage, one final design solution that best fits the brief must be chosen. This solution may be based on one of the possible solutions or a mixture of possible solutions., Design Realisation - Once a final design has been chosen, the next step is ‘design realisation’. In order to manufacture any product, a set of accurate working drawings, must be created. This can be done using traditional paper drawings or CAD. Working drawings are created to scale and fully dimensioned to ensure accurate manufacturing., Evaluation Stage - After completing the manufacturing stage of the design process, an evaluation is needed. Evaluation allows you to reflect on the completed project. In simple terms, you must state what went well, but also what improvements could be made to your project.,
