: Dear Diary , Today i met the most extraordinary man ! His name is Dr Thomas Barnardo . I was dining this evening at my friend Robert Grimshaws's house , and Dr Barnardo Was also among the guests ., After The meal , i found myself seated next to Dr Barnardo, and we had a very interesting conversation as we drank our coffee., Dr Barnardo dedicates all of his energy and time to the excellent cause of helping London's street children .  , His Ragged school in the East End of London has been eduacating destitute children for the last three years , but he has also recently opened a home for distitute boys . , He provides a warm , safe bed as well as food and clothing for some of London's poorest boys , because they have nowhere else to go ., However , he does not merely wait for distitute boys to come to him , he often goes out into the dangerous slum areas of the East end of our city , so that he can find children in desperate need of a home . , At first , he told me , he was keen to avoid taking in too many boys . However , one tragic night , a boy named John Somers came looking for a bed , but the home was fulll that night ., Dr Barnardo therefore sent Jhon , who was known as carrots , away . Barnardo later learnt that carrots died just two days later , of hunger and cold ., Therefore , since that fateful occasion , Dr Barnardo has never turned another child away , The motto above the door of his home is now ' No Destitute child Ever Refused Admission ' . , I returned home this evening tired , but inspired and full of determenation . I will tell all my friends about Dr Barnardo's important work ., I will also do all that i can to raise money to help him continue to look after the destitute children in his care . ,
