There is variation in the gene pool of a population, A geographical barrier separates the population into two subpopulations,, and inhibits gene flow between them., As the subpopulations live in different environments,  , there are different selection pressures acting on them., Due to limited resources and overproduction,, there is a struggle for existence. , Individuals with favourable alleles have, a survival advantage and higher chances to survive,, reproduce and pass on their favourable alleles, to the offsprings of the next generation., The frequency of favourable alleles increases in the gene pool of the population., Overtime, the gene pool of the two subpopulations , will be significantly different that, individuals of one population is no longer able to interbreed with the other population , and produce fertile offspring., The two populations are now different species, or in other words,, speciation has occured..
